Feedback Circuit
A loop mapping repeated observations into categorized bottlenecks, connecting response to revision so that lessons compound over time.
This circuit closes a loop that is always present but rarely made explicit: the path from what is observed, through what is changed, to what is learned.
The initiating condition is accumulation.
Systems that run long enough — agents, products, practices — generate repeated signals. The same failure mode appears across different runs. The same user confusion surfaces in different sessions. The same bottleneck reappears after each patch. Without a feedback circuit, these repetitions remain isolated events, each addressed in isolation, the lesson trapped in the incident rather than returning to the design.
The circuit gives repetition a function.
Observations are collected as they occur — not filtered in advance for significance, but gathered raw. From that accumulation, categories emerge: clusters of similar events that point toward a shared structural cause rather than a series of independent problems. Those categories are not final; they are hypotheses about where the system is resisting its own purpose.
Response follows from category, not from individual event.
This is the circuit's central inversion. Instead of reacting to each signal as it arrives, intervention is directed at the pattern beneath the signals. That shift changes what counts as a fix: not closing a ticket, but changing the condition that generated the tickets.
Revision then feeds back into the observation layer.
What gets collected next reflects what was changed. Categories that disappear confirm the intervention. Categories that persist or mutate indicate the change was superficial. The loop continues — not as an endless cycle, but as a ratchet: each turn either closes a gap or identifies a deeper one.
Within Openflows, the feedback circuit is load-bearing infrastructure. Several circuits depend on it: inspectable agent operations require a feedback layer to remain governable over time; autonomous research accountability requires structured revision cycles to keep human interpretive authority operative. The feedback circuit is not one specialized loop among many — it is the correction mechanism that makes all the others improvable.
The circuit is complete when observation, categorization, response, and revision form a continuous loop — and when each turn of that loop produces a system that is more aligned with its stated purpose than the last.
